The 1999 Honda XL1000V Varadero was powered by a 996cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine and two Keihin carburetors, boasting an output power of 94 hp at 8,000 rpm and 99 Nm (73 lb-ft) of torque at Now have the 15w grade oil in forks and it is a huge improvement. No diving when using front brake and the bike doesn’t roll or wallow round bends on rough roads. Feels very stable . Slightly increased the firmness of the ride but not a problem. Also have fitted Michelin Commander 2 tyres and its a major upgrade. Harley-Davidson makes two types of fork oil for shovelheads. HD Hydra-Glide fork oil is for 1966 to 1969 models. All shovelhead models 1970 and later use HD Type B fork oil. HD Primary Chaincase is used in the primary chaincase. Shovelhead models from 1966 to 1975 use Dot 3 brake fluid. Models 1975 and later use Dot 5 brake fluid. Preferably in ounces per fork. I haven't got a 1990 manual, I do have a 1989 manual, and it shows it at 10.9 oz (US) left, 10.8 oz (US) right. The 1994 manual shows 12.6 oz (Aspencade) / 12.2 oz (Interstate) left, and 12.7 oz right. Not sure what year this changed. The shop manual for my bike says the fluid capacity for the right fork is 23.5 oz. (US). I poured that much in, worked the outer tube and damper a number of times, then measured the height of the oil column, and found that it was more than an inch high. So I sucked the oil out to bring it back into spec (4.1 inches from the top of the fork). Left fork level 136mm, volume 486ml. Right fork: 190 mm / 7.5". Left fork: 187 mm / 7.4". I was hoping someone could kindly check the Honda manual for a 2000 ST1100AY with ABS and let me know the correct depth and volume for each leg, also clarify which is Right and Left i.e. from Riders perspective or from front. Many thanks Steve. In the Multi 1000, it’s tuned for mid-range and low-end torque. And the Ducati Multistrada 1000DS is geared slightly differently, with a shorter final drive. The Multi 1000DS has a 15/42 ratio, compared with the 15/41 on the Monster 1000, or the much taller 15/38 on the Supersport 1000, for example. The 1000 has cartridge forks, which means it needs thinner oil than the damper rod forks on the 650. Try 10w. The stock fork oil is more like 7w. 15w is too much with the stock springs, and a little heavy for most people in the 1000 even with better springs. Dealing with rougher roads actually pushes you towards stiffer springs, not softer ones. View and Download Honda CBF1000 owner's manual online. Honda. CBF1000 motorcycle pdf manual download. Also for: Cbf1000a. If you don't have the specs just put oil in, put a cable-tie on a fork leg and do some hard stops. It's easier if you overfill as you can then measure how much travel you are using, subtract that from the full travel of the fork, and draw out some oil to leave it just above the bottom-out level. According to Google the fork oil volume should be 8pAsQ.
